The Australian Government (DISR) Uses Glass.AI To Research Emerging Industries and Wins a Prestigious Award.
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) of the Australian Government has recently won the 2026 APS Data Science and Analytics Award for its work on the Emerging Industries Database, which sheds light on Australia’s ‘invisible’ industries.
The APS Data Awards recognise outstanding data-driven initiatives across the Australian Public Service that deliver real impact for government and the community.
In a first for Australia, DISR combined Glass.AI’s web-scale research algorithms with econometric methods and government microdata. This approach enabled the production of new, robust and repeatable data, along with detailed statistical analysis focused on Australia’s emerging industries.
At Glass.AI, we are delighted to see DISR receive this recognition. We continue to work closely with the Australian Government and its economists, statisticians and analysts who will publish further details of this pioneering research very soon, including a dedicated paper.
Our evidence-led AI research capability is regularly used to map and monitor emerging sectors and generate insights for studies across multiple countries. However, this marks the first time that economists have combined our findings on emerging sectors (including both developers and adopters) with internal government microdata to address key questions about the size, structure and impact of Australia’s emerging industries.
Further updates on this pioneering work will be shared soon, as DISR prepares to publish the full results and accompanying paper.
